RSM earns split with Mavericks

REMSEN — The Remsen St. Mary’s boys and Clay Central-Everly girls claimed wins on Friday, January 25, in basketball action.

The RSM boys scored 74 points for the second consecutive game as they routed their opponent 74-33. Nine players scored for the team with Spencer Schorg topping all scorers with 18 points. He missed just one shot in the game as he went 6-of-7 from the field including making both 3-point attempts and added four makes on as many tries at the foul line. He was also credited with a team-best six assists.

Damen Brownmiller topped the team in rebounding with six boards as he was the only other double digit scorer with 11 points.

Carter Schorg came off the bench to score nine points, matching starter Skyler Waldschmitt. Schorg added five rebounds while Waldschmitt had three steals.

Clay Central-Everly built up their lead with a 19-6 advantage in the second quarter as they went on to defeat the Lady Hawks 60-41.

Sydney Schroeder paced the Hawks with 14 points and three steals. She hit a pair of 3-pointers, matching Lexi Harpenau in that category as she scored her six points from behind the arc.

Brittany Johnson added seven points and six boards while Carly Ortmann pulled down a team-high eight rebounds to accompany her four points.

The RSM girls are 2-15 after the loss while the boys are 12-4.
