RSM beats H-M-S
HARTLEY — It was a clean sweep for Remsen St. Mary’s against Hartley-Melvin-Sanborn on Thursday, January 17. The girls team started off with a 52-35 win, their second of the season and also their highest scoring game of the year.
Sydney Schroeder sank four 3-pointers as part of a 23 point night. She added three assists and a pair of steals.
Brittany Johnson added a double-double with 13 points and 10 rebounds while Emma Galles had a team-high 11 boards to go along with her six points.
“We played some of our best basketball of the season,” RSM girls coach Scott Willman said. “We fell behind early 7-1 but kept good composure and held the lead from the early second quarter on. We made a strong run to take over the fourth quarter, limiting them to one shot and connecting on ours to forge a 20 point lead. Strong rebounding out of Emma and Brittany. Sydney led us in scoring a career high 23.”
The RSM boys claimed a 40-31 victory which snapped a three-game winning streak for HMS.
Brayden Ricke led the scoring effort with 14 points which included a pair of threes. Skyler Waldschmitt also had a pair of treys as he finished with eight points.
Spencer Schorg and Brady Homan added seven points apiece. Schorg was the team’s leader with four assists, three steals and the only block.
