Congratulations to St. Mary’s seventh grader, Alyssa Schorg, for sinking the half court shot on Monday, January 14, 2019, at half time of the boys’ varsity game vs. River Valley. Grandpa Paul Schorg bought the ticket and picked Alyssa to shoot for him. It was lucky for Alyssa that there was a little extra time that a third number could be drawn for the Hawks Half Time Half Court Hot Shot.

Alyssa had four shots. She made her layup for a free pop and popcorn, sponsored by Schorg Ag Supply. Her next two shots, including a free throw, sponsored by Mrs. B’s, and a three-pointer, sponsored by Gengler Feed & Barry’s Electric, were close but missed. Then she backed up for her final shot, the half court shot, sponsored by RGS Seeds & Becks. With a one-armed toss, she sunk the $500 shot to the roar of the entire crowd.

Basketball skills obviously run in the family as her brother, Carter, was the only other winner of the half court shot back in 2016 for a $250 gift card, when he was a sixth grader.

The only two winners of the Hawks Half Time Half Court Hot Shot (so far) are Carter Schorg (back on January 5, 2016) and Alyssa Schorg (on January 14, 2019). These siblings took a picture together to commemorate the special honor after Alyssa’s achievement.
