RSM boys avenge loss to Wolverines in OT

REMSEN — The battle between the Remsen St. Mary’s and South O’Brien boys basketball teams has given us some down-to-the-wire games the past couple of years. Friday’s matchup (January 4, 2019) was no different as the Hawks came away with a low-scoring 40-38 overtime win.

South O’Brien brought an end to RSM’s regular season winning streak earlier in the year with a 63-60 win, but it was the Hawks avenging that loss as the Wolverines fell for just the second time this season and the first time in nearly a month, ending a string of five straight wins.

The battle featured Brayden Ricke topping the Hawks in scoring with 14 points with three of the team’s four 3-pointers in the game. Spencer Schorg added the other triple as he scored 11 points.

Skyler Waldschmitt pitched in seven points and Brady Homan had six points and a team-high eight rebounds for the team.

South O’Brien got 17 points from Zeke Lundquist and 11 from Jackson Louscher, but no one else scored more than one basket for the Wolverines.

The RSM girls fell in the first half of the doubleheader by a 52-27 final score. Sydney Schroeder led the Hawks with 11 points and five steals. Lexi Harpenau accounted for six points on a pair of 3-pointers and Tori Galles added another trey for her points. Brittany Johnson got a basket and a free throw for her three points as she led the team with four rebounds and a pair of blocks.

The RSM girls (0-10) and boys (6-3) return to action at Hinton on Tuesday, January 8.
