AKRON — Reagan Frankl poured in 37 points for Akron-Westfield as they came away with a 66-57 victory over Remsen St. Mary’s on Tuesday, December 18. It was a career best for Frankl and just six points shy of the school record set by teammate Nick Jacobs last season.

Frankl shot 9-of-15 from the field including a 5-of-8 night from beyond the arc. He also made all but one of his 15 attempts at the free-throw line en route to the top single game scoring mark in the War Eagle Conference this season.

Along with his scoring numbers, Frankl also led the Westerners with 11 rebounds, three assists and the team’s only blocked shot.

Nick Jacobs added 13 points for the Westerners as he knocked down the other three treys in the game for the team. He added six rebounds, trailing only Frankl and Carter Drent’s 10 for the game.

RSM countered with a balanced approach in scoring with four players reaching double digits in the game. Blaine Harpenau led the Hawks with 18 points on 8-of-11 shooting with two of those makes coming from 3-point range.

Brayden Ricke and Brady Homan added 11 apiece for RSM. Homan was the leading rebounder for the team with nine boards while Ricke led the team with three steals.

Skyler Waldschmitt added 10 points to go along with five boards and the same number of assists.

The Hawks led by one after a quarter before the Westerners outscored their opponent in each of the final three frames to come away with the win. The win snaps a five-game losing streak in the series for Akron-Westfield who last won 48-47 in January 2015.

“These young men played extremely hard and never wavered,” A-W Head Coach Jon Harris said. “Coming off Monday’s 55-44 loss to Lawton-Bronson you never know how physically and mentally they’ll handle things but they came hungry and ready to compete.”

Remsen St. Mary’s takes a 5-3 record into the Christmas break.
