Each day during Advent, St. Mary’s kindergarten class learned about a different charity. The students learned about Catholic organizations and missions, medical aid societies, international relief charities, and places that help children who are homeless or without families. The students brought in “change” to sort, count and add with the goal of donating it to one or more of the organizations. The students practiced distinguishing the difference between the coins and also counting by ones, fives, tens and 25. The nine students brought in $79.08!

Before Christmas break the children made the hard decision and voted for four organizations out of 12 to give the money to. The “winning” organizations were: Make A Wish, Covenant House, Edmundite Missions, and Food for the Poor. The students sent the money along with a signed letter and Christmas picture letting the recipients know that the children would be praying for them.
