Royals take second loss of season
The Royals’ girls’ basketball squad played a tough game against the Gehlen Jays last Friday, resulting in a second loss of the season for the Lady Royals. Coming into the game the Royals had a record of 5-1 and the Jays had a record of 6-1.
The Jays got off to a 10-0 start and kept it up as the score was 31-23 at half time. At the end of the third quarter the scores were 41-35. It was a close game and the Royals fought hard but just couldn’t pull off a win as the ending score was 62-52.
Freshman Emily Dreckman led the team in scoring for the night with 19 points. Dreckman also had 12 rebounds and made all three of the three pointers for the Royals. Ellie Hilbrands had 14 points and an impressive 16 rebounds.
The Royals as a team made 17 out of 26 of their free throws. They also had 54 total rebounds.
Coach Gillian Letsche shared, “The game against Gehlen was tough just like the first one. Gehlen is an aggressive scrappy team. Over Christmas break we hope to improve our defense as well as prefect our offense.”
Emily Dreckman said, “I think we played hard but we just couldn’t stay with them. We out rebounded them by almost 20 rebounds, but we need to clean up our turnovers and have better passes. I think our season is going pretty good, we just need to keep up the hard work as we have a tough schedule after Christmas break, but if we clean up our game I think we can do it! So far it’s been a fun season and we have made some great memories!”
