Royal Girls smash Titans
The Royals girls’ basketball team had another crushing victory last Saturday, December 15 against their latest opponents the GT/RA Titans. The Royals had a rough start and the Titans put up a great fight, but the Royals managed to get a lead and held their opponents off long enough to seal their victory 62-53.
The Royals hosted their eighth game of their season and their sixth home game last Saturday at the MMCRU High School gym in Marcus. Their newest opponents were the Titans from GT/RA. The Titans had the lead in the first quarter beating the Royals with a score of 21 to the Royals’ 17, but the girls came back during the second quarter overcoming the Titans’ defense and cruising to a 32-26 lead.
After halftime, the Royals increased their lead, but during the final quarter of this riveting game, the Titans made a bit of a comeback, scoring multiple shots on the Royals. The Royals came out victorious with a close final score of 62-53.
Scoring for the Royals was led by freshman starter Elie Hilbrands with an outstanding 20 points for the Royals. Just behind Hilbrands was Madison Treinen with 13 points. Treinen also led the Royals in three-pointers made with a total of three out of seven attempted. Freshman Emily Dreckman helped her fellow teammates with six assists which puts her at number one for this category. The Royals kept the fouls to a minimum this game with only six total and no girl getting more than one.
The Royals are hoping to keep their winning streak going and will be playing Harris-Lake Park this Friday, December 21. If you can make sure to go out and support the Royals.
