Tuesday’s (11-27-18) RSM girls basketball recap
EVERLY — The third quarter proved to be the difference-maker as Clay Central-Everly came away with a 60-42 win over Remsen St. Mary’s. The Hawks trailed by just five at halftime, but the Mavericks pulled away out of the intermission by outscoring RSM 23-9 in the third.
“It is a work in progress,” RSM Head Caoch Scott Willman said. “We are short four of our 12 players and are working to fill new roles on the court. Our successes will come from how well we pick up roles, learn the skills and are able to make adjustments.”
Brittany Johnson led the Hawks with 22 points, eight rebounds and three blocked shots. She was able to get to the free-throw line 10 times and converted on eight of her shots from there.
“Brittany Johnson had a breakout game,” Willman said. “We will need to have more of this type of breakout from our juniors and sophomores as most were averaging 2-5 points last season.”
Sydney Schroeder added 14 points with a pair of 3-pointers. Tori Galles had the team’s other 3-pointer for her only points of the game as she dished out six assists.
RSM (0-2) will travel to play South O’Brien on Friday, November 30.
