Gehlen earns sweep of MMCRU
MARCUS — Gehlen Catholic picked up a pair of road wins against MMCRU on Friday, November 30.
The No. 13 Lady Jays rallied from a halftime deficit to earn a 61-53 victory. It was a slim four-point advantage for the Royals at the intermission, but the Jays outscored their opponent by nine in the third quarter to take the advantage and held it for the final eight minutes.
Addison Weber hit a trio of 3-pointers as she led the Jays with 19 points while also topping the team with four steals. Her seven rebounds were second most on the team behind Chloe Bunkers who had 11 as she finished a point shy of a double-double.
Lauren Heying added 12 points for the Jays while Kate Hill knocked down a pair of threes as part of her eight point game.
Ellie Hilbrands and Emily Dreckman each had double-doubles for the Royals, but it still wasn’t enough to bring home a win. Both had 15 boards whith Hilbrands scoring 14 points, one more than Dreckman.
Madison Treinen also reached double digits for the Royals with 11 points as she added five rebounds.
The Royals missed what could have been a much higher production night from Taylor Harpenau. Even though she still managed to score seven points, she was just 1-of-10 from the floor and missed a total of seven free throws.
The Gehlen boys also kept their record perfect so far this season with their biggest win of the year following a 67-36 victory over the Royals.
A total of 10 players found the scoring book for the Jays with Caden Kneip and Zach Kraft leading the way with 14 points apiece. The pair were also the team’s leading rebounders with Kneip finishing the game with nine and Kraft adding six.
Jacob Nemmers had a cold-shooting 4-of-17 game yet still managed to reach double figures with 11 points. Ethan Mousel had six assists to lead the team and go along with his eight points.
Jordan Marks was the lone player in double figures for the Royals as he ended the game with 11 and four rebounds. Robert Russell finished with eight points while Joel Johnson had five. Dean Jenness and Cody Dias each hit a 3-pointer for their only points of the night in a game where the team managed to make just 3-of-19 shots from beyond the arc.
The Royals will take their talents on the road to Trinity Christian on Tuesday, December 4.
