Royals triumph over Akron Westfield
The MMCRU Royals girls’ basketball team had another great victory last Tuesday the 27th with the second straight victory of their season. The Royals squared off against the Akron-Westfield Westerners. The Royals faced some challenges but they ultimately pulled through and scored a victory with a final score of 61-47.
The girls kicked off the first quarter of the game with a score of 21-14. The Westerners pushed back during the second quarter, but the Royals managed to beat them again earning the girls a halftime score of 34 to Akron’s 24.
The Royals faced some heavy challenges during the second half with the Westerners earning 12 points but the Royals managed to once again pull ahead and finish the third quarter with a score of 50-36 in favor of the Royals. Akron-Westfield made a strong comeback during the final quarter of the game putting up a strong fight trying to come out on top but the Royals pushed back and kept them from gaining a lead. The two teams went back and forth for most of this exciting final quarter leading to a tied quarter of 11-11. After the points were tallied, the Royals came out the victors with an outstanding score of 61-47.
The Royals were led in scoring by freshman Ellie Hilbrands with 18 points, followed by fellow freshman Taylor Harpenau with 15. Freshman Emily Dreckman led the squad in rebounding with eight caroms. Faith Olson, Harpenau, and Hilbrands all chipped in with four steals.
The Royals next game will be this week on Friday at the MMCRU high school gym in Marcus against the Remsen St. Mary’s Hawks. If you’re able, the Royals would love to have you there to cheer them on.
