Student Council plans Student Holiday Activities
As the holiday season is in the air, the members of the MMCRU study body are taking part in it together as a school. The Student Council has come up with fun holiday activities for the students to take part in. Activities include a Christmas Tradition Tree, “12 Days Before Christmas” dress up days, and a hat and mitten tree.
Members of the Student Council have taken the time to decorate a 12 foot tall tree in the south entryway which they have named the Christmas Tradition Tree. The tree is an opportunity to share MMCRU students’ favorite Christmas traditions. Near the tree you will find slips of paper in the shape of either a star or an ornament. You can write your favorite Christmas traditions and place it in the tree.
To get the students in the Christmas spirit, there are “12 Days Before Christmas” dress up days. Dress up days include Day 1: red and white, Day 2: slippers, Day 3: Christmas accessories, Day 4: 9th and 10th grade- green 11th and 12th- red, Day 5: PJ Day, Day 6: Christmas socks, Day 7: Hawaiian Christmas, Day 8: Christmas tie, Day 9: fleece and flannel, Day 10: blizzard, Day 11: favorite Christmas character, Day 12: ugly sweater. Ugly sweater day will be on the last day before finals which is December 18.
In the north hall you will find the MMCRU Hat and Mitten Tree. Students are able to bring gently used or new hats and mittens to place on the tree. The donations will be given to MMCRU families who are in need in the time of this cold winter season.
Student Council advisor Heather Youde was asked where the holiday activities came from and what the purpose of them were and her response was, “The Student Council brainstormed a list of ideas and this is what they came up with. I thought it was great! The purpose is the help get our students in the festive spirit while helping others in need.” Youde added, “The mitten tree was actually a tradition that we took from R-U that we did years ago. It’s a great way to give back.”
