Rams rally past Royals

MAPLETON ó In a matchup featuring two teams whose names featured letters one might see scrambled together in a word puzzle, MVAOCOU defeated MMCRU 46-14 on Friday, August 24.

Maple Valley-Anthon-Oto-Charter Oak-Ute won their first game since joining forces last season. Their 46 points were more than they had in their final six games of last season combined.

The Rams relied on senior quarterback Ely Funderman as he combined for five touchdowns. He threw for a pair of scores as he ended 12-of-18 for 192 yards. Funderman added three rushing scores with 104 yards on 13 carries.

Cayden Henderson added a 2-yard rushing score as he ran the ball 15 times for 59 yards. Aaron Michael added 58 yards and Noah Oberreuter had 38 yards rushing.

The Royals found their most success running the football with Evan Cluck rushing for both of the teamís scores. He ran past the secondary for a 69-yard touchdown on one of his scores as he finished with 130 yards on eight carries.

Braeden Kamphoff found some gaps in the defense as he averaged eight yards per carry on his six attempts.

Joel Johnson went 5-of-17 passing the ball as he threw for 26 yards. Conner Rassel and Jesse Perez each had two catches.

Jordan Marks led the defense of MMCRU with nine tackles. Rassel added 6.5 tackles and had a fumble recovery. Cade Owens also landed on a loose football for the Royals.

MMCRU will host Cherokee in the teamís home opener on Friday, August 31. The Braves lost their first game of the season 33-13 to Storm Lake.
