Chamber Coffee celebrates 10 year anniversary for Veterans Memorial

The VFW and American Legion and Remsen Color Guard hosted a Chamber Coffee on Tues., July 31, 2018 from 8:30 to 10:30 a.m. at the VFW Hall, celebrating the 10th Anniversary of the Remsen Veterans Memorial. Many members of the community gathered at the VFW Hall to eat some delicious treats and reminisce about the Veterans Memorial, as a photo album and other memorabilia from the project were on display to look at.

The Remsen Veterans Memorial project was started in 2006 with the Dedication being held on September 26, 2008. Committee Members for the Memorial Project included: Ted Nothem, Dwayne Douvia, Mike Tentinger, Joel Fisch, Francis Nilles, Pat Nilles, Ervin Ahlers, JoAnn Ahlers, Kay Augustine, and Don Kolker.

The memorial honors the men and women who serve our country at home and away and is located in the Remsen Cemetery. The number of names at the first inception in 2008 was 660. The number of names added since from 2009 through 2017 was 85.
