Hotel/Motel Sales Tax Funding awarded to Plymouth County Cyclists
PLYMOUTH CO. — In February of 2017 the Plymouth County Cyclists were awarded $800 from Le Mars Hotel/Motel Sales Tax receipts for the 2017-2018 funding cycle.
The funds were used to help put on the club’s 11th annual Tour de Plymouth ride on June 9.
“Our club is extremely grateful to have the support of the CVB and to be able to receive these special tax funds,” said Mark Sturgeon, ride coordinator. “With these funds and the help of local business sponsors we were able to make our ride stand out from other rides, which helps us draw more bicyclists from other towns to Le Mars to increase tourism and promote all the great things our city has to offer. This year’s ride drew participants from 16 cities across Iowa and South Dakota.”
The Plymouth County Cyclists were one of 10 applicants receiving funding this cycle.
Funding recommendations of the Convention and Visitors Bureau Advisory Board were approved by the Le Mars City Council on Feb. 21, 2017.
The CVB Advisory Board received 13 application requests totaling $49,763.19 for the 2017-2018 budget year.
The mission of the CVB Advisory Board is to attempt to fund as many qualifying projects with enough money to be useful toward completion of the project goal. Qualifying projects meet state code regarding the allocation of revenues generated by the hotel/motel sales tax.
Priority is given to projects that encourage growth of tourism to the city of Le Mars.
