Lady Blackhawks stay perfect at home against MMCRU

HINTON — Perhaps playing earlier in the evening has become a home-field advantage for Hinton and their non-illuminated field as the team improves to 3-0 at home following a 6-5 win over MMCRU on Wednesday, May 30. The Lady Blackhawks are just 1-2 away from home this season.

It was a game that saw swings in momentum throughout with MMCRU ending just a run short after scoring one in the top of the seventh.

“Tonight’s game was a good test for our team,” Hinton Head Coach Jennifer Jacobs said. “We made some minor errors defensively and MMCRU has a lot of really good hitters. They put the ball in play very well. That being said, when we needed to toughen up defensively we did and that is what brought us the victory tonight. Offensively, the bats are slowly coming to life and our at-bats continue to get better.”

Natalee Henke scored the first run of the game for the Royals on a base hit to left by Haley Schwarz. Henke reached on a single and then stole second and advanced to third on a bad throw as she had the team’s only two stolen bases in the game.

Hinton responded with a four-run bottom of the frame as Alyssa Fischer plated two on a double, her lone hit of the night.

Jaydn Case followed with an RBI single to right and the final run scored on a misplayed infield fly off the bat of Peyton George as the ensuing throw to third bounded into the Hinton dugout to advance a runner home.

The Royals fought back to a tie in the third. Megan Loutsch hit a bases-loaded single with nobody out for the first run of the inning. Kaelee Letsche followed with a 2 RBI double off the left field fence, but the rally was reined in from there as Loutsch was thrown out at third on the play and the Royals couldn’t push across any more runs.

The tie was short-lived as Hinton got a pair of runs in the bottom of the inning. Peyton George hit an RBI single to center with the bases loaded and one out. El’Lee Kroll brought home the other run on a fielder’s choice force out at second base.

Kroll got the win in the circle for Hinton while Molly Reuter took the loss for MMCRU. Both pitchers threw complete games.
