Local golfers compete at 1A state tournament

MARSHALLTOWN — Golfers from Akron-Westfield, Hinton and Remsen St. Mary’s hit the links at the Iowa Girls High School Athletic Union Class 1A State Golf Tournament held at American Legion Golf Course on Tuesday and Wednesday, May 29 and 30.

Remsen St. Mary’s lone representative, Tori Galles, ended 22nd as an individual out of 83 total golfers in the 1A field. She shot a 96 on the first day with her best hole being an even score on the par-4 fifth hole. She cut five strokes from her total, all off of the front nine, on day two as she ended with a 91. She hit par on a total of seven holes including five of the first nine.

Team scores: Iowa Valley 740, New London 740, BCLUW 760, Akron-Westfield 768, East Buchanan 771, Griswold 776, Bishop Garrigan 778, Woodbury Central 793, Hinton 808, Edgewood-Colesburg 835.
