REMSEN/ALTA — A day after playing 2A No. 5 Alta-Aurelia, the Remsen St. Mary’s softball team faced the team just behind the Warriors in the rankings in No. 6 West Sioux.

While RBI singles from Emma Galles in the first and Bailey Penning in the second kept things close for awhile, the Falcons’ bats were too much for the Hawks to handle in a 12-3 loss on Friday, June 1.

West Sioux scored in all but two innings with multiple runs scoring in three of the frames. The team knocked out 15 hits and drew five walks from RSM pitcher Galles who threw a complete game. The middle of the lineup came through in key situations for the Falcons as Meghan Danielson had 4 RBI while Erika McKenney and Josie McKee each had 3 RBI.

RSM slugger Veda Pick had three hits and a walk but was unable to drive anyone else in. Pick scored the team’s last run of the game as Hailey Klein doubled her home in the fifth.

McKenney pitched the win with six innings of work, averaging a strikeout an inning. Tasha Peterson threw the final frame and fanned two batters while also issuing free passes to two others.

Alta-Aurelia moved to 5-0 on the season with an 11-1 win in five innings over Remsen St. Mary’s on Thursday, May 31. Through their game with RSM, the Warriors had won all five of their games by double digits with the Hawks scoring just the second run against them all year.

Alta-Aurelia scored in every at-bat with 12 hits and five walks in the game. Pitcher Abby Kraemer led the team with 2 RBI and had a good night in the circle as well. She struck out 10 in her five innings of work and gave up just one run, a solo home run to to Ashley Willman in the top of the fifth.

Emma Galles had the only other hit in the game for the Hawks.

Hailey Klein took the loss with eight earned runs allowed in just 1 1/3 innings of work. Galles came on in relief, giving up the final three runs, one of which was earned. She struck out three batters.
