Local softball teams converge on Kingsley-Pierson tournament
KINGSLEY/PIERSON ó Four Plymouth County softball teams took part in a tournament hosted by Kingsley-Pierson on Saturday, May 26 with mixed results for the teams.
The K-Pís lone win came against Remsen St. Maryís in a high-scoring affair. The Panthers won 11-10 after jumping out to a 9-0 lead after three innings.
The Hawks were led by Veda Pick who had 5 RBI as she smacked a home run in the game. Bailey Penning added 2 RBI on a pair of doubles. Emma Galles and Carly Ortmann each had a pair of hits. Galles took the loss in the circle after allowing the first six runs, four of which were earned in the first 1 2/3 innings. Hailey Klein came on in relief and gave up five unearned runs.
RSM fell 8-1 to Cherokee after taking a 1-0 lead in the fifth on an RBI from Penning. The Braves got their offense going in each of the final three innings. Klein took the loss after giving up the first three runs in the bottom of the fifth. Galles gave up five runs in the final two innings, of which only one was earned as she struck out four.
The teamís other game was a 12-3 loss to River Valley as the Wolverines scored in all but the final inning. Lexi Harpenau had two of the teamís five hits. Brittany Johnson drove in a pair with a double. Ortmann had the other RBI in the game.
