HINTON — Offense was at a premium on Wednesday, May 30 as MMCRU and Hinton met at Diediker Field. While both teams had opportunities to potentially break the game open, neither team was able to do so in a 2-0 win for the Blackhawks.

“Both teams played really hard, pitchers were really efficient,” Hinton Head Coach Cale Kramer said. “We both had chances for some timely hits that maybe could have opened it up one way or the other which would have been nice, but we take these games any way we can get them and we got to commend our guys for playing hard all seven innings.”

Hinton pushed across the first run on a pair of doubles in the third inning. Tanner Eilts sent a shot all the way to the fence in right field to start the inning. Two batters later, Eilts traded places with Kyle Brighton as he knocked an RBI double to center field.

The Blackhawks had an opportunity for more as Jacob Kirwan reached base and set up the team with second and third and just one out. The Royals got out of the jam as Turner Schmitt hit a comebacker to pitcher Tristen Olsen who got the out at first. Kirwan ended up caught in a pickle after leading too far off of second base and the Royals ended the inning by tagging out Brighton trying to score from third.

Hinton again left runners on second and third in the fourth.

MMCRU had a good opportunity to tie the game in the sixth with a runner on third base, but Aiden Brock maintained the shutout by getting Tyler Whited to strike out to end the inning. That would be the final batter Brock would face as he finished with just two hits and a walk allowed in six innings with eight strikeouts.

Braden Vonk got the save as he got Joel Johnson to strike out looking to end the game.

Hinton’s other run came in the sixth inning as Andrew Hessa hit an RBI single to right field to score pinch runner Dylan DeMoss.
