RSM baseball sits at No. 5 in preseason rankings
The Iowa High School Baseball Coaches Association (IHSBCA) has announced their preseason rankings for the upcoming 2018 season.
In 1A, Remsen St. Mary’s is coming off of back-to-back seasons of qualifying for the state tournament including a state semifinal appearance last season. The Hawks check in at No. 5 in the preseason rankings after recording a 28-8 record last season.
Kingsley-Pierson, coming off an 18-8 season last year, is receiving votes in the preseason. The Panthers are set to return all but two players from last year’s team which fell to eventual state qualifier Akron-Westfield in last year’s district final.
Mason City Newman Catholic, the defending 1A state champion, takes the top spot in the preseason rankings, followed by North Linn, the team RSM beat in the state quarterfinals. Coming in at No. 3 is Lisbon, the team A-W beat in the state quarterfinals. Martensdale-St. Marys, the team the Westerners fell to in the state semifinals and last year’s state runner-up, is fourth in the preseason rankings.
No other Plymouth County teams were listed in the preseason rankings in any of the other classes.
