MMCRU softball splits opening two games
REMSEN — The MMCRU softball team split their first two games of the season, losing their opener to Trinity Christian by a 4-0 score on Tuesday, May 22, and bouncing back for a 16-0 win in three innings against Harris-Lake Park on Wednesday, May 23.
Trinity held the Royals to just one hit as Kristina Goth broke up Koralee Heynen’s no-hit bid. MMCRU got four free passes, but were unable to push across a run.
The Tigers managed just three hits in the win, but two of those went for extra bases including a 2-run home run for Shayna De Roon against Molly Reuter who took the loss.
The bats woke up on Wednesday, May 23, as the Royals pounded out 11 hits in their rout of H-LP. The team also reached base on seven walks.
After scoring one in the first, the team got 15 runners across home plate in the second inning. Natalee Henke, Faith Olson, Haley Schwarz and Megan Loutsch each had two hits out of the heart of the lineup.
Henke drove in a pair with a solo home run and single in the game. Schwarz led the team with 3 RBI while Loutsch and Reuter both had 2 RBI.
Freshman Caitlyn Evans got the win in the circle as she allowed just two hits in her short three inning start.
The Royals (1-1) will host Hartley-Melvin-Sanborn on Friday, May 25.
