MMCRU/RSM bowling falls shy of state berth
FORT DODGE — The MMCRU/RSM bowling teams fell short of earning a berth at the state bowling tournament on Tuesday, February 13, at their state qualifying meet at Ridgewood Lanes.
The boys team finished in third place behind OA-BCIG and Forest City. There were a total of seven teams at the meet.
MMCRU/RSM finished with a score of 2,742 while OA-BCIG ended with a 3,008.
Cameron Miller had the top individual score with a 412 for the team. That was fifth best in the individual standings. Dana Wessel of OA-BCIG rolled a 475 as the top score of the day, finishing his second game with a 287.
Drew Pierce ended with a 395 for MMCRU/RSM while Mitch Rhodes was 40 pins off that pace. Ethan Riedemann bowled a 345 with Nathan Reusch also 40 back of that score.
The girls team finished in fourth in a relatively even qualifier as the top team and sixth place team were within just over 400 points of one another.
Forest City won with a score of 2,228 followed by OA-BCIG. North Iowa edged MMCRU/RSM by 18 pins for third place.
Hailey Klein was the individual runner-up with a score of 372. North Iowa’s Jenna Berschman was the only other bowler with a better score as she finished at an even 400.
Megan Wurth had the sixth-best score with a 306.
Bailey Penning ended with a 257, which was 11 better than Britney Specht. Kaitlin Harvey had the final counting score with a 204, one better than Victoria Kollbaum.
MMCRU/RSM graduates Kollbaum, Harvey and Specht from the girls team with top bowler Miller the lone graduate from the boys team.
