Courthouse remodel plans put in motion

PLYMOUTH CO. Changes will be coming for the first floor of the Plymouth County Courthouse this summer.

At its Jan. 2 meeting, the Board of Supervisors met with Bryan Paulson from ISG Architects to review the first floor remodel project.

The project list includes:

An entire remodel of the men and ladies restrooms to meet public health and ADA requirements (expand ladies public restroom, by using adjacent closet).

Redesign and finish the ceiling in lobby with updated lighting.

Refinish lobby walls, new doors, refurbish woodwork.

Remove part of the empty storage area to allow more space with entrance hallway.

Widen hallway entrance into basement, new lighting, new flooring, new vending machine area.

Remove wood paneled wall on IT storage room wall and remove window, new door.

New storage room door.

New flooring entire basement, including area into ladies/employee bathroom.

Replace and redesign slope of floor of entrance into north end of courthouse.

Remove obsolete windows in the north entrance, turn into public directory/display.

Address leaky ceiling in north entrance under grand staircase, new lighting, wall covering, ceiling texture and flooring.

Install infloor heat to lower exterior entrance under master stair case.

New outer doors with handicap assessable openers.

Maintain an access to storm sewer in north lower entrance on floor, keep access panel to area under master stair case.

Re-build awnings/canopy with new roof pitch, new drainage with re-design of water drainage/downspouts within stone covered pillars of awnings on each side of north entrance.

Bury water drainage downspouts under concrete and under landscaping/lawn to street drain.

New concrete around north side of courthouse.

Repair leaky second floor exterior landing of stairwell and place new tile.

Repair and repaint stairway and hall leading up to second floor in courthouse from lobby, new lighting.

Supervisors approved the remodel timeline. At its next meeting, the board will set a public hearing on the project for 10 a.m., Jan. 23, with a bid opening on Jan. 30.

Contracts are expected to be executed on Feb. 13.

Interior construction may begin anytime after Feb. 19, to be completed by June 1.

Exterior work will begin June 1, with an early September completion date planned.
