Blackhawks get first sweep of season by downing CC-E
EVERLY ó Hinton came away with its first doubleheader sweep of an opponent on Friday as they defeated Clay Central-Everly in a pair of War Eagle Conference games.
The girls started off the night with a 57-51 overtime win as Hinton hit a season high in scoring with the help of the extra four minutes.
Four players scored in double figures for the Blackhawks who outscored the Mavericks 11-5 in the extra frame to come away with the win. Bryce Klein led the way with a double-double as she scored 16 points and pulled down 11 rebounds. Emma Webb came off the bench to score 13. Hallie Reuter added 11 points with five assists and steals. ElíLee Kroll finished with 10 points, eight steals and five rebounds. Laura Brighton rounded out the scoring with seven points.
The Hinton boys saw a 12 point halftime lead reduced to one at the end of three quarters, but the Blackhawks pushed the final margin back to three possessions with a 59-50 final score.
Tate Kounkel had an efficient night, going 5-of-6 from the floor and making all four free throw attempts to finish with a team-best 14 points. Braden Vonk also scored in double digits with 10 points and adding five boards.
Jacob Kirwan ended with eight points, six of which came at the charity stripe, as he led the team with 11 rebounds, five assists and four steals. Brenden Gengler hit a pair of 3-pointers while also ending with eight points.
The wins snap losing streaks of five games for the girls and four for the boys. Each team returns to action at Remsen St. Maryís on Tuesday. The Lady Blackhawks won their first meeting with RSM, but the boys fell to the Hawks back in early December.
