Lady Jays hang on after team goes cold in second half against MMCRU

MARCUS ó Gehlen Catholic built up a 39-13 lead at halftime over MMCRU on Friday, December 15, but scored just 10 points the rest of the game. The Royals made things a bit more interesting with a fourth quarter rally, but Gehlen held on for a 49-35 victory.

The Lady Jays started with a strong first half, scoring 19 points in the first quarter and 20 points in the second. Then, the wheels fell off in the second half starting with a low-scoring third quarter in which the Jays outscored the Royals 7-4. MMCRU took the momentum with an 18-3 run to close the game, yet it still wasnít enough to overcome the first half deficit.

Sydney Livermore led Gehlen with 15 points on 7-for-13 shooting. She also came away with four steals and five rebounds with the steals being most on the team.

Katelyn Langel and Krista Lipp each finished the game with nine points as Lipp was also the teamís leading rebounder with eight boards. Six of those came on the offensive glass as the teamís total of 28 rebounds was evenly split between the offensive and defensive sides of the ball.

Haley Schwarz was the top player in several categories for the Royals. She was the only player to finish in double digits in points as she had 14 in the game. She also had a team-best eight rebounds and six steals.

Faith Olson hit 3-of-5 shots to end with six points. She also had a pair of rebounds, assists and steals.

Aliyah Jackson and Madison Treinen each ended with five points.

The Royals were hurt by a poor shooting night from the perimeter as the teamís leading 3-point threat, Megan Loutsch, went 0-for-6 in the game from outside and the team ended just 2-of-18. Loutsch was able to grab three rebounds and the same number of steals while blocking one shot.
