Gehlen crushes MMCRU Girls
The MMCRU girls’ basketball team lost to the Jays on Friday, December 15. The Jays came out strong with a nineteen point lead after the first quarter, 19-7. The Jays carried the Royals away in the second quarter as well, leaving MMCRU behind with a score of 39-13 at halftime. The third quarter for the Royals wasn’t much better, being out scored 7-4. MMCRU fought back in the fourth quarter, however outscoring the Jays 18-3. The Jays took the game by a final score of 49-35.
Royal player Haley Schwarz was the heart of the team, scoring fourteen points with five two pointers. Schwarz made five field goals with a field goal percentage of .333. She also grabbed eight rebounds. Faith Olson helped the team, scoring six points with three field goals and two pointers. Olsen had three rebounds and seven turnovers. As a team, MMCRU had 22 rebounds but committed 23 turnovers. The Royals made 14 field goals with a field goal percentage of .318. For two pointers, MMCRU made twelve with a percentage of .444.
Gehlen player Sydney Livermore made the Jays fly high, scoring 15 points. Livermore had six rebounds and also made seven field goals. Krista Lipp was a boost to the Jays scoring nine points. Lipp made four field goals and had eight rebounds.
MMCRU head coach Gillian Letsche shared what she thought of the game quoting, “Their heads were not in the game until the fourth quarter. The girls have done better and even though the score was low we still had some fun.”
