MMCRU Cagers lose at GTRA

The Royals’ girls’ basketball team traveled to GTRA on December 16. MMCRU faced off against GTRA and had an unfortunate turnout, losing the game 41-20 to GTRA.

The first half was very rough for the girls. The Titans got a big start to the game with an 11 point lead, ending the first quarter with a score of 11-0. The Titans extended their lead t 17 points, ending the second quarter 19-2.

The second half was much better for MMCRU, however the Titans continued to extend their lead to 30 points, ending the third quarter 37-7. The Royals were able to gain some ground on the Titans in fourth quarter, by shrinking the Titans’ lead to 21 points. The Royals didn’t have enough to win the game; the final score was 41-20 in favor of the Titans.

Madison Treinen led the Royals in field goals, three pointers and points, with three field goals, three three pointers, and a total of nine points. Shana Ames, Molly Reuter, and Aliyah Jackson were able to help their team by making one two pointer each. Emma Heinrichs was the Titans’ highest scorer with 11 points, and Madison Norris came in second with nine total points.

The Titans managed to make 17 field goals, compared to the Royals’ six. The Titans came out on top with 13 two pointers, while MMCRU had three. The Titans made four three pointers, the Royals came close behind with three three pointers. The Royals managed to come out on top with five free throws, compared to the Titans’ three.

Junior Madison Treinen said, “I think that on Saturday we just didn’t play together like we know we can. We couldn’t really move the ball or score, and that messed our whole game up.” She continued, “Since then, we have started playing much better and hopefully we will be coming out strong from Christmas break.”
