Akron-Westfield slips by Royals by one-point
The MMCRU girls’ basketball team traveled to Akron to participate in their second game of the season on Tuesday, November 28. The Westerners jumped out to an eight point lead in the first quarter. In the second quarter the Royals trumped over the Westerners with a quarter ending score of 11 to 6. The Royals remained strong in the third quarter crushing A-W with a score of 9 to 7. The fourth quarter competition quickly became fierce with it ending in a tie with a score of 12 to 12. The final score of the game ended up in A-W’s favor 43-42.
Royal player Gretchen Ruba had five field goals on nine attempts and a free throw percentage of .556%. Ruba had six rebounds and scored five points. Faith Olson had four steals helping to boost the Royals’ defense. Aliyah Jackson had six rebounds and two assists. Jackson scored seven points for MMCRU. Haley Schwarz had seven rebounds. Megan Loutsch was an extreme boost and life line for the Royals with six rebounds and five three point shots made. Loutsch scored a total of 21 points.
The Royals as a team had a .318 field goal percentage and a .333 percentage for two pointers made and a .294 percentage for three pointers made. Eleven field goals were made and 19 free throws made for a percentage of .579. The Royal girls had 24 turnovers while Akron-Westfield had 18. For rebounds, MMCRU had 42 and A-W grabbed 25. The Royals had 10 steals in the game.
MMCRU was led by Megan Loutsch with 21 points, however she did have some fierce competition. A-W’s Brooke Koele scored 17 points, one steal, and six rebounds.
