Remsen’s 14th Annual Olde Fashioned Christmas celebration Dec. 4
Join the City of Remsen as we celebrate the sights and sounds of the Christmas season during our Fourteenth Annual “Olde Fashioned Christmas” to be held Monday evening, December 4, 2017. Participating Remsen businesses will be opening their doors to welcome visitors from 5:30 p.m. - 8:00 p.m. this year with refreshments and drawings.
There will be something for everyone to enjoy with fun activities planned throughout the evening. In case of inclement weather on Monday night, we will have activities on Wed., Dec. 6.
Starting off the evening will be the ever popular cookie exchange, sponsored by Remsen churches, located in the V.F.W. Hall beginning at 5:00 p.m. Anyone interested in donating cookies for the exchange should bring two - four dozen cookies or candies to Tammy Portz at Furnishings On Second At Mullers before 2:00 p.m. or after 2:00 p.m., please take them to the V.F.W. Hall.
Everyone is invited to join us around the community Christmas tree in the town square for the “Blessing of the Season” at 6:00 p.m. lead by pastors from the Remsen churches.
Santa will make his way to the center square to light the town Christmas tree at 6:15 p.m. and the children are invited to bring their Christmas list and visit with Santa at the Remsen Heritage Museum following the lighting of the community tree till 8:00 p.m. During their visit with Santa, the children will receive a candy cane treat provided by the Remsen Chamber of Commerce.
The shopping experience at Remsen’s merchant Christmas “Kids’ Korner” is back for this year! Kids will be able to purchase a gift (from $1 to $20) and wrap it up for their parents. The “Kid’s Korner” will be located in the building north of the City Hall Council Chambers. In the same building as “Kids’ Korner”, the St. Mary’s basketball team invites all kids to come decorate and frost cookies.
Throughout the evening, St. Mary’s Music Department will be caroling around the tree and at businesses on Main St.
Downtown businesses will be open during the Olde Fashioned Christmas celebration. For the safety of those crossing the street to visit downtown businesses, the downtown area from Cowboy’s Country Flooring to The Triangle, will be blocked off and as in the past, we will feature the ever popular horse drawn wagon rides.
The Remsen Fire Department will be on hand again this year to man the fire pits and provide a place for visitors to warm up and roast a few marshmallows.
Come get into the Christmas spirit and join us for a great time of celebration with family and friends!
