Royals chalk up season-opening win

STORM LAKE — MMCRU started the season with a 46-35 victory at Storm Lake St. Mary’s on Tuesday, November 21. The Royals held on after going cold in the fourth quarter.

Megan Loutsch and Haley Schwarz tied for the team lead in scoring as each put in 11 points. Loutsch had nine of her points come on 3-point attempts as she went 3-of-6 from beyond the arc. She added three rebounds.

Schwarz made one 3-pointer, but mainly kept inside the line. She finished with three steals and rebounds and a pair of assists.

Aspen Woodall drained a pair of threes to end with six points while Aliyah Jackson also had six, but on a night where she struggled from the floor, going just 2-for-15. Jackson was the top rebounder with four boards while also leading the team with three assists and three steals.

Lizzie Lenhart led SLSM with 20 points and nine rebounds as she went a perfect 9-for-9 from the charity stripe.

The Royals (1-0) travel to Akron-Westfield (0-1) on Tuesday, November 28.
