Regina Caroline Catharina Borchers, 100, of Le Mars, died Wednesday, Nov. 22, 2017, at the Good Samaritan Society-Le Mars in Le Mars.
Regina Caroline Catharina Johnsen was born Nov. 2, 1917, in Grant Township, Plymouth County, the daughter of Will and Etta (Brunken) Johnsen. She was baptized on Nov. 25, 1917, and confirmed on March 20, 1932, at Christ Lutheran Church, Grant Township, rural Le Mars, by the Rev. J.D. Meyer.
Regina attended country school in Grant Township and later worked on the farm.
On Sept. 9, 1937, Regina and Fred Borchers were united in marriage at Christ Lutheran Church, Grant Township, by Reverend Bunge. They farmed and raised livestock in Preston Township before moving to their home in Le Mars on Aug. 16, 1967. After moving to Le Mars, Regina and Fred became members of St. Johnís Lutheran Church in Le Mars. Fred died Dec. 19, 2005.
Regina was a member of St. Johnís Lutheran Church in Le Mars and Farm Bureau. She was also a member of the Good Neighbors Club where she enjoyed going on trips to different states. She loved her flowers and doing yard work and also visiting with friends and family. She enjoyed playing cards and doing ceramics.
Regina will be lovingly remembered by her children: Le Roy (Pat) Borchers of Le Mars, Ron (Twila) Borchers of Le Mars, and Shirley McNaughton of Le Mars; 11 grandchildren; many great-grandchildren; a sister-in-law: Ruth Borchers of Le Mars; a brother-in-law: Raymond Borchers of Carrolton, Maryland; and many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Will and Etta Johnsen; her husband, Fred Borchers; one brother, Elmer Johnsen; a son-in-law: Merrill McNaughton; and a great-grandson, Kyle Utesch.
Funeral services will be 10:30 a.m., Saturday at St. Johnís Lutheran Church, E.L.C.A. in Le Mars. The Rev. Dr. Jean Ziettlow and the Rev. Chris Meier will officiate. Burial will follow in Memorial Cemetery in Le Mars. Visitation with the family present will be after 5 p.m., today (Friday) with a prayer service at 7 p.m., all at Rexwinkel Funeral Home in Le Mars. Visitation will resume from 9:30 a.m. until service time on Saturday at the church. Arrangements are with the Rexwinkel Funeral Home in Le Mars.
