Gentlemen start your tractors
AKRON — Engines will be revved up for the Akron Truck and Tractor Pull Saturday in Akron.
The pull is held at the former airport grounds south of Akron.
Activities start off with a Pedal Pull at 5 p.m.
The Truck and Tractor Pull starts at 6 p.m.
This year there will be two tracks each running a sled this year, according to Kyle Hoffman, event organizer.
“Other pulls have done the alternating pulls and it works well,” Hoffman said.
There are seven divisions for pullers to enter: Non-Turbo Tractor; Stock Tractor; 3000 RPM; MOD 2 & 4WD Trucks; Stock 2 and 4WD Trucks; Dual Tractor; and Pro Farm Tractor.
“We have different weight classes in the different divisions. We usually have between 60 and 75 participants. Not everybody hooks twice with the same tractors,” he said.
Entry fee is $25 per hook for pullers. Prize money will be awarded.
The event brings in many local pullers, but also participants from Minnesota, Nebraska and South Dakota.
“There’s a really large following right from the Plymouth County area, and a lot from Akron and Alcester,” Hoffman said.
The area for the pull is part of the Akron Industrial Park.
“We have bleachers and room to bring lawn chairs, and even some early space available to park a pickup,” Hoffman said.
A food stand is available on the grounds, run by the Akron-Westfield FFA Chapter and alumni.
There is also a raffle for two pedal tractors, one John Deere and one International. Tickets are $5 a chance or five chances for $20. Le Mars Toy Store assisted with the pedal tractors.
Tickets may be purchased ahead of time by calling Hoffman at 712-204-2375. Raffle tickets will also be available Saturday at the concession stand. Need not be present to win.
Proceeds from the pedal tractor raffle and concession stand will benefit the A-W FFA Chapter.
