Lady Blackhawks survive scare from Whiting
HINTON — The Blackhawks needed a walk-off in the bottom of the seventh to get past a one-win Whiting team on Thursday as Hinton won 7-6.
Head Coach Jennifer Jacobs said it wasn’t the best game played by her team.
“Tonight was an ugly win for the team,” Jacobs said. “Way too many errors both in the field and on the basepaths were to blame.”
Whiting took a 6-0 lead before Hinton responded as the Warriors scored two in the first, three in the second and added another run in the fourth.
The Blackhawks finally woke up in the fourth as they got back four of the runs. Then in the sixth, the team tied the game with a pair of runs before winning in the bottom of the seventh.
Morgyn Gagnon led the team as she went 2-for-2 with a walk and 3 RBI in the game.
Shelbie Young added a hit and 2 RBI. The final RBI went to El’Lee Kroll as she ended with the only extra-base hit of the game, a double.
Kroll pitched the win as she gave up eight hits and struck out four. Of the six runs allowed, half were earned.
Jacobs said she is glad the team came out on top, but hopes to turn the page on this game.
“On the plus side, the team still rallied back to pick up the win, however we will need to play a lot better moving forward if we wish to continue to have success,” Jacobs said. “ Tomorrow is a new day. Thankfully in our sport we have the opportunity to come back, play again, and try to pull things back together.”
