HINTON — By a score of 232-273, the Hinton girls golf team cruised to victory over MMCRU on Tuesday.

While the weather was nice on Tuesday, it was a different story earlier in the week as the course was hit by a hail storm.

“It was a beautiful night for golf although the wind picked up a bit, we will take the wind as long as we get that sunshine,” Hinton girls coach Joel Small said. “A big shoutout to our course manager Scott Mathiason for getting the course in back into shape just three days after the damaging hail storm. We are lucky to have him and the other workers who worked diligently to get the course back into playing condition.”

Hinton had four of the top five golfers for the match. Alyssa Rosenbaum finished with a 53, Lauren and Claire Kipp tied at 59, and Shelbie Young shot a 61.

“It was good to see Alyssa come back with the medal after struggling last week against East,” Small said. “She showed some tenacity tonight. I was proud of her game.”

Taylor Schlenger led MMCRU with a 56, while Mahaley Dirks and Kaelee Leavitt ended at a 64. Rylee Gannon finished with an 84 to round out MMCRU's top four.

Hinton's Hannah Vondrak shot a 64 and Emma Webb had a 68.

The Hinton boys also picked up a win over the Royals 163-186.

Jay Small was the medalist with a 37 while Spencer Burke’s 40 gave him runner-up honors.

“Jay Small had a roller coaster round with 3 birdies and 4 bogies, along with 2 pars for a medal round of 37,” Hinton boys coach Bruce Held said. “He is swinging very well right now, and his game is really coming around. Spencer Burke, who is Jay's playing partner, has been on a roll as of late and shot a smooth 40 tonight to take the 2nd place medal.”

Ethan Riedemann also shot a 40 for the day for MMCRU.

Ryan Yates’ 42 and Ross Johnson’s 44 rounded out the counting scores for Hinton.

Cameron Miller closed with a 43 for the Royals while Cade Owens ended with a 51 and Connor Sand a 52 to finish the night for MMCRU.
