K-P boys take second at home golf meet
KINGSLEY — The Kingsley-Pierson boys golf team shot a solid 178 for the day at their own Brookside Golf Course against four other teams, but Woodbury Central still came away with the overall team trophy with a 166.
“We continue to play well,” Kingsley-Pierson boys golf coach Tim Dirksen said. “Another team score under 180, which was a goal I set before the season started. I told the guys if we keep it down in the 170’s, we would place well, and possibly take a few meets.”
The Wildcats were helped by a superb outing from Anthony Gallagher as he shot par for the course with a 36. He shot even-par on holes 2 through 8 and birdied hole number 9. His worst hole of the day was number 1 where he bogeyed.
While Dirksen liked the way his team golf, he said it’s hard to control how the other teams golf against you.
“It doesn’t help us though when an opposing player shoots par,” Dirksen said. “That carries a lot of weight towards a team score.”
K-P’s Cale Schweitzberger was runner-up with a 41 for the day. Schweitzberger’s best hole came at number 5 where he birdied.
Jordan Utesch was just a stroke behind with a 42 for the Panthers.
Logan Wenzel tallied a 46 while Kaden Schroeder ended with a 49 to close out the counting scores. Kyler Krieg and Alex Martensen each had non-counting scores of 50.
The Panthers will get a chance to knock off Woodbury Central at their home course on Tuesday in a conference meet at Moville.
