Royals golf starts year with tight finish

SANBORN -- The MMCRU boys golf team started the year with a nail biter.

The Royals fell to Hartley-Melvin-Sanborn by a mere four strokes on Monday afternoon, April 3, 160-156.

Cameron Miller, Travis Weiler, and Ethan Riedemann were on top for the Royals. Miller shot a 43 and was third overall, and Weiler and Riedemann were right behind him at 44, good enough to tie for fourth.

Dawson Myears was the final piece of MMCRU's top four, finishing at a 49.

Drew Woodall and Brad Galles rounded out the team. Woodall finished at 52 and Galles at 60.

On Tuesday, April 4, the team traveled to Hull to face Western Christian. There the Royals fell by 30 strokes 161-191.

Miller again led the team with a 43, identical to Monday.

Team Scores: HMS 176, MMCRU 180.

Individual Scores: Cameron Miller 43 - Third Place, Travis Weiler 44 - Fourth Place, Ethan Riedemann 44, Dawson Myears 49, Drew Woodall 52, Brad Galles 60.

Starting the season well can be a challenge, but the MMCRU girls golf team did just that with a strong showing against Hartley-Melvin-Sanborn on Monday, April 3.

The Lady Royals had four of the top five golfers in the match. Taylor Schlenger shot a match-best 53, followed immediately by Cassie Thomson with a score of 56.

Mattie Tucker and Nikki Ruba finished fourth and fifth overall. Tucker shot a 64 and Ruba finished at 71, leaving the team's match score at 244.

Mahaley Dirks and Rylee Gannon both shot an 85 for the Royals.
