MMCRU girls compete at Cherokee's Tomahawk Relays
CHEROKEE -- After the boys competed on Thursday, April 6, it was time for the girls to take to the track on Friday, April 7, in the Tomahawk Relays. The Le Mars Community girls finished fourth of eight teams in the larger school division while MMCRU was seventh out of 10 in the 1A class.
For Le Mars, Dakotah Owens contributed to the most team points on the day, mainly from her performance in the high jump where she finished in second place. She reached an even 5-00 mark for the day. Owens also lent her capabilities to the 4x200 and 4x400 events that each took third place as well as the distance medley relay that took first place. Joining Owens on the distance medley team that won by nine seconds over Spencer were Katie McAllister, Sydney Rand and Chloe Calhoun.
MMCRU saw most of their success in the relays, but had a few individual efforts place well. Emily Moser took sixth in the 100 meter dash while Faith Olson took fifth in the 800 meter run. Kaylee Colling was seventh in the mile run while Asiah Jackson took fourth in the 400 hurdles.
Peyton Turner also placed fourth in both the discus and shot put for the Royals. Megan Loutsch grabbed seventh in the shot put as well.
The team's best relay performance came in the 4x800 relay which saw large margins between finishes. Alta-Aurelia won the race by 22 seconds over the Royals, but MMCRU in turn beat Emmetsburg by another 22 seconds. The Royals clocked an 11:08.78 in the race.
The Royals placed third in the 4x400, and fourth in the 4x200 and sprint medley races.
