LE MARS — As the Le Mars Community bowling team reflects on a successful season, the team also handed out awards at their end of season banquet.

The team finished the season with fourth place finishes at state for both the girls and the boys. Kody Koerselman finished seventh at state for the boys while Sydney Landis was ninth for the girls as each were individual medalists.

The team saw four records fall during the season. The first was a team record for the girls in the Baker game. At a meet in mid-January the team combined for a 269 Baker game score. This broke a record set in 2010-11 season of 241.

The girls also broke a record later in January against Sergeant Bluff-Luton for the team total. Against the Warriors the team bowled a 2,860, shattering the old record of 2,723 that was set at the 2016 state meet.

Two records came tumbling down at the state qualifying meet held in Le Mars. One was an individual record and the other a team record. Lexi Schroeder bowled a 258 for the day as she beat by two pins the old record of 256 set by Kayla Crippen in 2011.

The other record was the boys team total. Previously set at the 2016 state qualifying meet with a score of 3,224, the team beat that by nearly 100 setting the new record at 3,320.

The team also handed out team awards at the gathering. Named the Most Improved on the season were Kelli Susemihl, Alison Zimmerman and Colton Webner.

Given the Strike Award for dedication to the sport of bowling, practices and meets were Lexi Schroeder, Trey Whiddon and Deyton Augustine.

The Bulldog Spirit Award, given to a bowler who has been enthusiastic and a good teammate, was handed out to Steph Williams and Kody Koerselman.

Honorary captains were Sydney Landis, Hannah McDougall, Kelli Susemihl, Jamison Anderson, Deyton Augustine, Austin Eppling, Brady Kommes and Colton Webner.

Each of the bowling teams went undefeated during the regular season. Lexi Schroeder and Riley Augustine had the highest averages for the season with Schroeder averaging a 194.7 for the season and Augustine a 206.3.
