Lady Jays edge RSM by slimmest of margins with tiebreaker
REMSEN — After being tied 233-233 in the top four, the match between the Gehlen Catholic and Remsen St. Mary’s girls’ golf teams came down to the fifth golfer.
The Lady Jays had the edge, with Harley Foreman shooting a 64 compared to RSM’s Brooklyn Frederes and Mallory Behrens tying with a match score of 66.
RSM’s Catherine Russell led all golfers, shooting a 50 on the afternoon. Russell was followed by Haley Delperdang with a 56 and Megan Wurth with a 61. Frederes and Behrens tied for fourth at 66. Kelsey Behrens finished with a 69.
“I am so proud of the effort from the RSM girls golf team,” RSM coach Sue Klein said. “As a team, we shot 18 strokes better then our previous meet.”
Gehlen was led by Krista Lipp and Claire Zubrod, who both shot a 56.
“We played really well tonight,” Gehlen head coach Kathy Neary said. “Krista and Claire are consistent in the 50’s. I would like to get two more golfers to be consistent in the 50’s from my freshmen along with Katelyn.”
Katelyn Willett followed with a 60 and Kaleigh Ripley shot a 61 to round out the top four. Foreman and Aubree Nilles, who shot a 68, rounded out Gehlen’s squad.
