Blackhawk boys edge RSM by slim margin
REMSEN -- After a big win at home last week, facing an unfamiliar course gave Hinton some problems, but they were still able to come away with a 172-176 win over Remsen St. Mary's.
"We played our first meet away from Hinton today, and it showed," Hinton Head Coach Bruce Held said. "It was not the nicest night, weather-wise, and the Remsen Golf Club is a good test for these kids. We did survive."
While the Blackhawks won the team competition, Derrick Schorg earned medalist honors on his home course for RSM. Schorg shot a 40 on the day. This edged Hinton's Jay Small by a stroke as Small ended as runner-up.
Ryan Yates was right behind with a 42 for Hinton. The two teams tied on several individual scores with Spencer Burke of Hinton and Noah Brazil of RSM each carding a 44. Likewise, Ross Johnson and Will Galles each shot a 45. Blake Beller and Brody Ricke ended tied at 47.
Held said it will be good to have a few days of practice to work on some mechanics.
"Every player has something different to work on, so we will have two days of working on our weaknesses so we can be a little sharper the next time out," Held said.
The Hinton boys will return to action Thursday against South O'Brien. Remsen St. Mary's will be back on the course on Thursday against Gehlen Catholic.
