Kelsey, a Le Mars Community High School (LCS) senior, used four cones similar to the Blue Bunny Champ ice cream cones to form a banner.
Red lettering for the words Le Mars Ice Cream Days and the year 2013 across the cones complete the design, according to Kelsey.
The cones for the Ice Cream Days logo are drawn in the traditional colors of Champ cones, she said.
"The cone color is a light brown and on top it is the chocolate color with light brown for the peanuts," Kelsey said.
Dan and Candy Steichen's daughter developed the Ice Cream Days design to complete an assignment in LCS instructor Tom Smalley's computer graphics class last November.
"We got an assignment every week," Kelsey said.
She used a computer program, Illustrator, to draw the image for the Le Mars Area Chamber of Commerce Ice Cream Days contest.
Kelsey said she took the class to try something new so she was surprised to hear she'd won the competition.
"I didn't really believe it because I was trying to win, but I just didn't think I was going to," Kelsey said.
As the winner, she'll be given a T-shirt with her design on it and she'll be asked to participate in the 2013 Ice Cream Days parade.
Her Ice Cream Days logo will be displayed for the first time in March and featured on marketing and promotional materials for the June 12-15 summer celebration in Le Mars, according to a Chamber press release.
Kelsey plans to pursue a nursing career after graduating from LCS.
Her other interests are softball, camping with family, snowmobiling and tubing.
