Dennis James Lenihan, Jr. was born Sept. 15, 1951, in Le Mars, the son of Dennis and Martha (Kettler) Lenihan. He was baptized and confirmed at St. James Catholic Church in Le Mars. He attended grade school at Gehlen Catholic and later graduated from Le Mars Community High School.
After graduation, Dennis moved to Missouri where he went to work for MKT Railroad. After working for them for 11 years, he returned to the area. He then was an over-the-road truck driver. In 1996, after his father died, he stayed at home to be caregiver for his mother.
Dennis was a longtime member of St. James Catholic Church in Le Mars.
Through the years, Dennis enjoyed riding his motorcycle and tinkering with cars.
Dennis will be remembered for his handiness and his ability to fix just about anything. He will be greatly missed.
Survivors include his siblings: Brigid (Dana) Demand of Sandy Hook, Conn., and Mike (Gayle) Lenihan of Tucson, Ariz.; his nieces and nephews: Stephen Demand, Martha Demand, Sarah Demand, Philip (Stella) Demand and their daughter, Eve, Kerri Lenihan, and Brenna Lenihan.
He was preceded in death by his parents and several aunts and uncles.
Mass of Christian Burial will be 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at St. James Catholic Church in Le Mars. The Rev. Paul Eisele will celebrate. Burial will follow in Calvary Cemetery in Le Mars. Visitation with the family present will be after 4 p.m. Tuesday with a scriptural prayer service at 7 p.m., all at Carlsen-Feuerstein Funeral Home in Le Mars. Visitation will resume one hour prior to the service Wednesday at the church.
In lieu of flowers, memorials can be made in Dennis's name to St. James Parish.
