STORM LAKE -- The Hinton wrestlers overcame Western Christian and Bishop Heelan in duals at Storm Lake on Jan. 10.
Hinton 45, Western/Unity 30
The Blackhawk matmen earned a 15-point win over Western Christian/Unity Christian Jan. 10 at Storm Lake.
"This was the second victory over the Wolfpack this season," Hinton wrestling coach Jan George said.
Hinton took three pins, one decision and four forfeit wins from Western/Unity for the overall victory.
The Wolfpack claimed five pins for the day.
Blackhawk wrestlers Lucas Vondrak (106), Jacob Vondrak (145) and Alec Wodtke (170) claimed pins against their Western/Unity opponents.
Lucas Vondrak felled Tommy Weidauer in 3:29. Jacob Vondrak pinned Zach De Jager in 0:23. Wodtke took down Sam Yun in 1:30 for the pin.
Hinton's Cole Mills (113) won by a close 5-4 decision over Matt Henning.
"Cole Mills and his nemesis Matt Henning locked up in battle for the second time," George said. "Again it was a classic match of speed strength and courage. These two have wrestled five times and each time Mills has come away with the victory. I keep telling Cole that it is these matches that prepare you for tournament time."
The Blackhawks also took forfeit wins at 285, 120, 126 and 132.
The Wolfpack's five pins came from Joseph Bootsma (195), Austin Gunner (220), Mark Altena (152), Jacob Van Ginkel (160) and Drew Hoekstra (182).
Bootsma pinned Zac Schreck in 4:51, Gunner took Bradley Young in 1:28, Altena pinned Lance Gulbronson in 3:28, Van Ginkel felled Colin Poss in 0:59, and Hoekstra pinned Werner Trieweiler in 0:48.
Hinton 45, Bishop Heelan Catholic 36
Hinton's wrestlers claimed a 45-36 win over Bishop Heelan Jan 10. at the Storm Lake meet.
"Earlier in the season Heelan defeated the Blackhawks in the Wolfpack dual tournament," George said. "We kept telling the young men we felt we should have won the first dual and we could do that with a win. The wrestlers responded with an all-out team effort and did just that."
The Blackhawks took two pins, one decision win and five forfeit wins for the day.
The Crusaders tallied five pins and one forfeit win against Hinton.
Taking pins for Hinton were Taylor Schroeder (138) and Colin Poss (160).
Schroeder pinned Heelan's Andrew Puetz in 3:13 and Poss claimed his pin over Michael Peterson in 0:59.
Jacob Vondrak (145) took a win from his Heelan opponent in a 9-4 decision.
Hinton took forfeit wins at 113, 120, 132, 170 and 182.
Heelan's pins came from Jack Niggeling (285), Connor Mahaney (126), Christian Engel (152) and two from Omar Marquez (195, 220).
Marquez beat Bradley Young (220) in 0:52, Niggeling pinned Keith VanEvera in 0:00, Mahaney pinned Blake Walton in 4:38, Engel took down Lance Gulbronson in 0:32, and Marquez pinned Zac Schreck (195) in 0:34.
The Crusaders also took a forfeit win at 106.
