Dorothy Jane Bruns was born on April 15, 1935, near Dumont, to William and Bernice (Card) Bruns. She attended country school near her home and later graduated from Dumont High School in 1953.
On Oct. 23, 1953, Dorothy and Delmar Davern Pies were united in marriage at Ackley. They made their home in the Dumont area where Dorothy worked in various cafes and restaurants. Delmar died in 1964.
In 1968 Dorothy married Robert L. Seaton in Watertown, S.D.
Dorothy and her family moved to Le Mars in July of 1984. Well known for her excellent cooking, Dorothy worked at Archie's Waeside, Country Kitchen and Lally's Eastside.
In earlier years, she volunteered as a 4-H leader and Cub Scout Den Mother. Later in life she was a Senior Companion.
Dorothy enjoyed playing cards, especially pinochle, dominos and puzzles.
She was very close to her brothers and sisters which resulted in many practical jokes. Her conversations often revolved around her grandchildren and the joy she found in them.
Dorothy will be lovingly remembered by her children, Diane (Rex) Anfinson, of Remsen, Duane Pies, of Le Mars, Doreen Pies, of Le Mars, Roger (Jennifer) Seaton, of Suwanee, Ga., Rebecca (Paul) Vasquez of Deland, Fla.; grandchildren and great-grandchildren, Jeremy (Stacey) Schipper, Alyssa, Austin, Damien and Brendan; Blake (Toni) Schipper, Dylan; Sara Anfinson; Nathan Anfinson; Seth Anfinson; Miranda Anfinson; Madilynn Anfinson; Cole Anfinson; Matthew (Christy) Pies, Seth, Mary Ann, Treyanna, Zade; Josh Pies; Michael Pies; Jakob Spellacy, Erin Spellacy, Sean Spellacy, Audrey Spellacy, River Seaton; Taylor Sitzmann, Zane Vasquez; brothers and sisters, Edward (Randi) Bruns, of Minneapolis, Minn., Betty (Jim) Wubbena, of Bristow, Minetta Jones, of Waverly, Marge (Darwin) Freese, of Allison; and several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband Delmar; daughter-in-law Melanie Pies; a brother, Richard Bruns; and brother-in-law Henry Jones.
Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday at the Mauer - Johnson Funeral Home in Le Mars. The Rev. Timothy Geitz of Grace Lutheran Church in Le Mars will officiate. Burial will follow at the Washington Reformed Cemetery in Ackley. Visitation will begin at 2 p.m. today (Monday) at the Mauer - Johnson Funeral Home. The family will be present from 5-7 p.m. with a prayer service at 7 p.m. Visitation will resume at 9 a.m. Tuesday at the funeral home.
