REMSEN -- The Remsen-Union girls blanked River Valley in the opening quarter of their matchup Tuesday night, and the Wolverines never recovered.
R-U took the win 47-26 in the non-conference play.
The Rockets (5-6) kept River Valley scoreless in the first quarter, going into the second stanza 8-0.
"We played solid defense, but in all fairness they probably missed some shots that usually fall for them," R-U coach Mike West said. "It still was a good defensive effort for us."
R-U amped up the offensive pressure in the second quarter, scoring 16 points and holding the Wolverines to four.
The Rockets led 24-4 at halftime.
Both teams scored eight points in the third quarter, with the Rockets keeping a 20-point lead going into the fourth quarter at 32-12.
R-U outscored River Valley 15-14 in the final quarter to hold on to a 19-point win.
"In the second half we weren't as intense as I would have like to have seen, but we protected our lead and allowed some of the younger players to get some more minutes," West said.
R-U junior Kelsey Ruden led scoring for the night with 15 points. Ruden also had five rebounds and four steals.
Senior Brittany Sudtelgte led in rebounds with 13 boards for the night.
"It was a good night on the boards for her," West said.
Senior Brittany Weikel had nine points and nine assists for R-U.
Next up, R-U matches up with town and conference rival, Remsen St. Mary's, Friday in Remsen.
