ALTA -- The Westerner matmen had seven place in the top six at the Alta-Aurelia Tournament Saturday to claim a fifth place finish out of nine teams.
Manson NWW took first place at the invite with 247 points.
Akron-Westfield tallied 130 points for the day.
The Westerners were led by four first place finishes.
Cole Oltmans (145), Dylan Blinde (152), Taylor James (182) and Chet Willer (195) claimed tournament wins.
Oltmans had two straight wins, pinning Jacob Husman, of Alta-Aurelia, in 1:21, then earning a 3-1 decision win over Connor Alne, of Manson Northwest.
Blinde went 3-0 for the day, pinning all three of his opponents.
Blinde pinned Joe Kenny, of Ridge View, in 1:10, Thomas McColley, of Manson Northwest Webster, in 1:47, and Skyler Michalski, of Manson Northwest Webster, in a grueling 5:42.
James also went 3-0, earning all his wins by fall against his opponents.
He first pinned Christian Jarvis, of Alta-Aurelia, in 3:44, then pinned Alex Pickhinke, of Ridge View, in 0:46, and finally pinned Nathan Krueger, of Manson Northwest Webster, in 1:25.
Willer was 2-0 for the day with a pair of pins.
First Willer pinned Joe Rodriguez, of Alta-Aurelia, in 0:23, then felled Henry Sippel, of Ridge View, in 0:54.
Earning a second place finish for A-W was Daniel Dirks, at 138.
He went 1-1 for the day, earning a 13-1 major decision win over Jason Kenny, of Ridge View. He lost by pin to Payton Rice, of Manson Northwest Webster, in 0:59.
A-W's Jacob Bergman went 1-2 for the day to earn a fifth place finish. He was pinned by Manuel Murillo, of Alta-Aurelia in 3:27, and by Dru Kenny, of Ridge View, in 1:18, before taking a win by pin over Jeremiah Ruby, of Alta-Aurelia, in 0:48.
Trevor Hansen earned a sixth place finish for A-W, going 1-3 for the day.
Hansen first lost by 8-2 decision to Callan Anderson (Manson Northwest Webster, then Hansen pinned A-W teammate Jonah Anderson in 2:39. Hansen then lost by 10-0 major decision to Bryce Birkey, of Manson Northwest Webster and by pin to Callan Anderson, of Manson Northwest Webster, in 1:16.
A-W's Jonah Anderson (220) went 0-1 for the day, falling by pin to Michael Davidson, of Ridge View, in 1:25.
