REMSEN -- The Hinton Blackhawks stretched their winning streak to five in a row, felling the Remsen St. Mary's boys 70-42 in Friday matchup.
The RSM Hawks (3-4) were in step with the Blackhawks (5-1) to start the game but they couldn't keep up the pace.
They made it a one-point game with Hinton by the end of the first quarter, with Hinton leading 15-14.
Then the Blackhawks took off and RSM struggled to find the basket, scoring only eight in the second quarter while Hinton scored 22. At halftime, Hinton led 37-20.
The Hawks couldn't get out of that hole in the third quarter, scoring eight points. Hinton kept up their momentum with 14 points for the quarter. Hinton led 51-28 going into the final period.
A strong 14-point quarter for RSM brought their score up to 42, but the Blackhawks stayed out of reach with a solid 19-point quarter to finish the game.
Hinton had a balanced scoring night, led by junior Jake Hasselquist with 10 points. Senior Jason Vander Kooi, senior Dalton Becker and sophomore Logan Jurgensmeier each added nine points for the Blackhawks.
Hasselquist also led in Hinton rebounds with seven boards. Vander Kooi logged five assists for the night, while Becker and senior Marcus Turman each made three steals.
For RSM, senior Tyler Delperdang was hitting his mark, scoring 25 points for the Hawks, going 11-for-15 on field goals including 2-for-2 on threes. He went 5-for-9 from the line.
Delperdang also had five steals from the Blackhawks.
RSM senior Nate Roder added another six points and led with rebounds, grabbing 13 boards for the Hawks.
Hinton travels to Sergeant Bluff-Luton tonight (Tuesday) and Remsen St. Mary's will play in Le Mars against Gehlen Catholic tonight.
