Blackhawk girls sweep matchup with Remsen St. Mary's

REMSEN -- The Hinton Blackhawks protected the basket well Friday, earning a 62-22 win over the Remsen St. Mary's girls.

The Blackhawks (6-1) only allowed RSM two points in the first quarter, scoring 17 of their own.

Before halftime, they raised their score by 19 more points, holding RSM to six in the second quarter.

Hinton led 36-8 at the half.

RSM (3-4) couldn't make up ground in the third quarter, scoring only four to the Blackhawks' 13. Hinton led 49-12 going into the final period.

The Hawks picked up their speed in the final quarter, scoring 10, while the Blackhawks scored 13 to finish their win.

Hinton had four girls in double figures for the night.

Junior Lauren Hedlund led scoring with 16 points, going 8-for-13 on field goals.

Blackhawk senior Sadie Shuck and junior Alex Yoerger added 12 points each and junior Shaeler Lund scored 10.

Hinton freshman Kailey Burke led in rebounds with eight, while Yoerger and Lund each added six. Senior Breana Bollmeyer logged five assists for the night and Yoerger had four.

Hedlund made five steals against RSM and Lund had two blocks.

For the Hawks, RSM senior Makenzie Ricke led scoring with nine points, and sophomore Alexis Bunkers scored six.

RSM seniors Miranda Staab and Anyssa Trejo each had three steals for the night.

The Hawks next hit the road for a matchup with Gehlen Catholic in Le Mars tonight (Tuesday) and Hinton travels to Sergeant Bluff-Luton tonight.
