AKRON -- The Akron-Westfield boys kept the pace with Marcus-Meriden-Cleghorn at first in their Friday matchup, but the Eagles pulled ahead in the second half to win 68-33.
In the first quarter, A-W scored 12 to MMC's 15, making it a three-point game.
The Westerners scored 10 more points before halftime, but the Eagles widened the gap with a 19-point second quarter.
MMC (4-1) led 34-22 at the half.
Coming out of halftime, A-W lost some momentum, and MMC held them to five points in the third quarter, scoring 18 points for the Eagles.
The third quarter score put MMC ahead 52-27.
The Westerners scored only six in the final period, while MMC scored 16 for the win.
The Eagles had three in double figures for the night's scoring, led by junior Dylan Spieler with 26 points for MMC.
For the young A-W team, junior Chance Hoffman and sophomore Tavian Banks led scoring with seven points. Hoffman also led in rebounds with four.
With Friday's loss, the Westerners' record dropped to 0-6.
